Let’s Get Candid About Clutter

Can we talk for a minute? I’ll just say it (because you know you’re thinking it): household management is tough. For one thing, it takes time to keep the house clean and its contents organized. But it can also feel like an endless, thankless job, making it even harder to face. After all, each stage of life seems to come with its own special brand of clutter and chaos.
Are you in one of these seasons of life?
- I’m an empty nester. The kids have left, and now I have a houseful of stuff, including theirs. I’m not sure what should stay and what should go. Should I leave their rooms as is? Do they even want their things? Maybe I should put everything in the basement, but I’m not sure it will fit. And anyway, that’s just “stuff shuffling.” Moving stuff from one room to another does not help me at all.
- I’ve just gone through a relationship breakup. While most of my former partner’s belongings are gone, I’m left with a bunch of stuff that has shared memories, some I’d rather forget. How will I sort out the good from the bad without losing who I am and my life before this happened?
- My retirement is fast approaching. I’m so excited! It’s my chance to start anew, and I want a home that fits my vision for my new life. But that vision doesn’t include all the things I’ve accumulated for decades (some of which don’t even belong to me). How do I sort the “keep” from the “give away” items? How do I make good decisions and not let go of things I really want? What do I do with everything that belongs to my adult children or great-grandmother but got dropped into my lap?
- I’m downsizing. I’m ready to live a simpler life with fewer things. But I’m unsure what I’ll need in my new home. Should I pick what I think will work and get rid of the rest? What if I let go of something and regret it later?
One thing’s for sure: if your house is out of control and you’ve been feeling too overwhelmed to do anything about it, you’re not alone. Trying to streamline the chaos is a big job. Scratch that – it’s a huge, messy, complicated, and emotionally taxing job. Importantly, too, your brain can sense when a problem is too big to fight alone but too immediate to run away from. So, what do you do when you can’t fight or flight? You freeze.
This may explain why signing up for decluttering courses or watching dozens of “clean with me” videos on YouTube doesn’t help you find your footing the way you hoped it would. Sure, you’ve picked up tidbits of decluttering wisdom here and there, but you still feel like you’re in a war: you against your clutter. You’re sinking in the quicksand of stuff. Now what?
First things first: understand that it doesn’t have to be this way for much longer. The uncertainty and unanswered questions may frustrate you now (and rightfully so!), but you can make your household run smoother and reclaim a sense of ease in the process. And I’ll show you how.
YOU DESERVE A HOME TO BE PROUD OF
We all want a household that runs efficiently, freeing up our time and energy to focus on the most cherished aspects of our lives, like family, friends, jobs, and interests. In practice, that means spending less time cleaning the house and more time enjoying life within its four walls, welcoming people inside, and making memories. In other words…

…your house should feel like home. And streamlining
your approach to rid yourself of household clutter
is the metaphorical front-door key to finally unlock it.
IT TAKES TWO (A.K.A., YOU AND ME)!
Remember the whole “freeze mode” thing? The best way to lift out of the mental quicksand is to get help from an expert –who understands your situation. A certain Decluttering Fairy who, just like you, wished that her clutter would “all be gone with the wave of a wand!”
It may surprise you, but decluttering doesn’t have to steal every minute of your day or an entire weekend. And it doesn’t have to cause stress and anxiety, either. Armed with my easy-to-follow, three-step process and one-on-one guidance, you’ll finally be able to calmly, decisively face your stuff and reestablish a functional household rhythm that keeps your life humming along beautifully.
(Oh, and your clutter will be gone. Abracadabra!)

MEET THE DECLUTTERING FAIRY, CINDY BROCK
Hello friend! I’m Cindy Brock, a writer, author, and decluttering expert.
I’ve been decluttering for far longer than I care to admit, and I’ve been right where you are. Once upon a time, I found my way out of my own clutter-saturated home and, in the process, uncovered the castle of my dreams. On the other side of the clutter, I uncovered a physical environment that makes my heart smile, gives me a sense of peace, and has made me more excited about life. And, importantly, I also discovered what works and what (definitely) doesn’t when it comes to decluttering in a way that sticks.
No matter who you are—a new empty nester, someone transitioning out of a relationship, a soon-to-be retiree, or someone so ready to downsize—change is in order, and it’s totally attainable for you. But first, you need that one missing piece: someone to help.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
“I was so thankful to have Cindy’s help decluttering my paperwork.
She asked me to gather it all up, and it was a large plastic tote.
She showed me how to create and sort into easy categories.
In two hours, the bulk of my paperwork – some years old – was taken care of.”
